What is Literacy?UNESCO defines literacy as “the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate, compute and use printed and written materials associated with varying contexts. Literacy involves a continuum of learning to enable an individual to achieve [their] goals, to develop [their] knowledge and potential, and to participate fully in the wider society.”
Literacy is more than just about reading and writing. It includes any skills needed to navigate the world, from using a computer, to understanding your finances and how to vote, and even reading the bus schedule. There are many reasons that someone may have low literacy skills and there are many ways you can help support them. To learn more, visit LQ Academy, our collection of free eLearning courses. |
