Election Day Podcast Special!

Today's the day to vote in the Federal Election!

Welcome to the 4th episode of Season 3 of the Literacy Quebec Podcast! With the upcoming election on October 21st, our theme for the next few weeks has been about literacy and civic engagement.

In our final episode for our election special, we are talking about why it is important to vote and how to get youth involved. Today, we are speaking with Samantha Reusch, Research and Evaluations Manager, Apathy is Boring and Erica Ruth Kelly, Programs Coordinator, Quebec and Atlantic,ABC Life Literacy Canada. As part of our election series, we will be talking about how to vote - if you haven’t already. We close the show with upcoming member events. #literacy4all  #elxn43

So how do you vote?
After you have found your polling station your can follow these steps from the ABC and Elections Canada Guide on Voting:

"Election workers are there to help you vote, not to promote or encourage you to vote for a candidate or political party. They are your friends and neighbours, and you can ask them anything! Here is what you do at a polling station on election day:
  1. Head right into the polling station. An election worker will be there to say hello and direct you to the right table. Tell them if you need help — they’re here to make sure you understand what’s going on!
  2. An election worker at your table will ask for ID to prove who you are and where you live. They will check your name on the voters list if you were registered, or add your name to it if not.
  3. They’ll write their initials on a ballot, fold it and hand it to you.
  4. Take your ballot behind a voting screen. Mark the candidate you want to vote for with an X or another clear mark. Fold your ballot back up.
  5. Head back to the election worker who gave you your ballot. They’ll take it, tear off a tab, and hand it back to you.
  6. Put your ballot in the box at the table."

And then you are done!
